Bethel Park- South Park Wastewater Plant
Catfish Run enters Piney Fork Run immediately upstream of this sewage treatment plant outfall.
Most of the pollution impacting Catfish Run is considered non-point source pollution since the pollution comes from many sources. This sewage plant discharge is a point source of pollution.
The sewage plant must meet the standards of a National Pollution Discharge Elimination Program (NPDES) permit developed specifically for this sewage plant and designed to maintain the beneficial uses of Piney Fork. The NPDES permitting program is mandated by the federal Clean Water Act of 1972 and is administered by the Pennsylvania Department of Environmental Protection.
